Subject: Great Film - Even For City Slickers
This film makes its (interesting) point in a very convincing manner. It is very professionally done and is a joy to watch.

One exception to this lean pork thing though: If you make your own kielbasa you'd prefer the fatter hog since you cant get 15% fat out of todays ultra lean pork cuts - even the loin. You have to buy pork fat separately. And btw, Krogers has always carried better chicken then pork....apparently some things dont change much in 60 years.

I never realized that selecting hogs for breeding is curiously like selecting a spouse. Essentially, the same rules apply to anything you get for breeding. Guys: Get a roll of white tape and wait til she wears a black blouse...then put it across those loins and have a look. Gals: if he's got a roll of fat at the base of his "tail," move on.

Subject: Watch the tails!
With A title like THAT, how can you NOT like this? Actually, this is a pretty good exploration of what the buyer looks for when buying hogs. Made (I guess) for hog producers the film starts off bubbly with chipper music playing off. I almost thought this was going to be for kids! lol. Luckily we're spared grisly slaughter details but we do get a nice examination of a crosssliced pig, tail still attached! We find out the differences between fat and nonfat pigs. Pretty wild.

Subject: "The hog man's pleasure"
The story of meat-type hogs, not fat-type hogs, lies somewhere between the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "Babe". A firm carcass is nice from the point of the h-bone. The American housewife wants big dressed pork. The hog producer wants to give it to her. They both end up satisfied. Astonishingly great color.

Shotlist

Illustrates the different qualities of pork and shows how to acquire the best in meat purchases. Explains the importance of a "meat" type hog, with the necessary steps to raise it, and distinguishes it from the "fat" type. Instructs the housewife in the selection of good meat for her table.
